FOCUS Collective is returning for a fourth retreat to provide music. They began in 2010 as a worship team of missionaries serving at FOCUS events. Since then, the Lord has brought together a diverse mixture of musicians from both within and outside of FOCUS. Though we serve together, we are a collective because each of us is pursuing our individual callings to serve God in music through various avenues

Joel Stepanek

What began as a simple internship in a parish youth ministry office evolved into an incredible adventure that led him on numerous middle school lock-ins, high school retreats, and conferences across the United States and the world. He is the Director of Resource Development for Life Teen International where he creates engaging youth ministry resources for middle, high school, and college students as well as parents. He has traveled across the world training youth ministers and speaking to teenagers.

He is an avid Packers fan (and owner) who loves cooking, weightlifting, and reading whatever book he can get his hands on. Most important, he loves spending time with his wife, Colleen, and his two children, Elijah Daniel and Sophia Grace. They are his greatest adventure.

Sister maria veritas

Sister Maria Veritas is a Dominican Sister of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. She is originally from Queens and attended the University of Harvard. Shortly after delivering the valedictory to her classmates upon their graduation, she entered the convent in Ann Arbor as an aspiriant for her community. She completed a master’s degree at Ave Maria University in Florida and is currently working on her doctorate in systematic theology focusing on the study of scripture.

Father Thomas Cavanaugh

Father Thomas Cavanaugh is a parish priest in Woodbridge, Virginia where he enjoys bring Christ to everyone there. He was raised in Arlington, Virginia, attended catholic high school, and withdrew from his faith during college. After a rekindling of a friendship with Christ, he served as a missionary in Ethiopia and then discerned the priesthood. While in seminary at Mount St. Mary’s he led trips with other seminarians to college campuses to speak to college students about Christ and to connect them to the campus ministry. These “New Evangelization Trips” still continue today. Father Thomas is a proud owner of a very thick beard and very happy to share his love for our Lord Jesus during this retreat.
